How many times have you walked alone along Londons streets after dark and felt an unseen presence watching your every footstep ? How many times have you felt the hairs on the back of your neck rise as you stand alone on a deserted London underground platform ?
There are stranger things than the living that walk the shadows of aulde London. You could just have encountered one of the hundreds of ghosts that still struggle to move on from their mortal lives. Many spirits remain bonded to locations across London and seem reluctant to leave; from the dark places of the East End to the bright lights of Theatreland and the ancient City of London to the South Bank.
...and some are friendlier than others.
Just a note to let people know that this website will be undergoing a substantial overhaul in the next few weeks. Doing a degree eats a lot of time and as such I havn't been able to get the site updated. Expect London-Hauntings to have a complete updated list for City of Westminster and City of London sections by the end of the month. I'm also accepting contributions and articles related to Hauntings in London (ie; the Enfield Poltergeist, Highgate Vampire, etc etc) that warrant their own look. Please also e-mail me contributions at LondonHauntings@aol.com)
I also apologize if people have tried to e-mail me on other links but I havn't responded. Technical glitch on this end. Please from now on use the London-Hauntings@aol.com address for all traffic regarding the site and article submissions and I will respond. Please be aware that I'm not *at the moment* interested in submitted work on ghosts and hauntings from outside of London. Please attempt to keep it focused within the Greater London area and keep the articles to around 2500 words maximum. The purpose of article submissions is to include hauntings and 'urban legends' that fit either outside the criteria of the main list or just need to be expanded. I'd accept a few good tales on people like Sweeney Todd, Dick Turpin and other nefarious individuals too as long as they really qualify as 'London Legends'. Think Springheeled Jack and stuff like that rather than the Kray Twins.
Best wishes everyone.
Rhys
This website was formed with the intention of serving as a guided tour of Haunted Locations in London and to be as comprehensive as possible with historical information on the site - details of the haunting - aswell as maps and images of the location . Where possible the site will also offer a detailed account of haunting episodes at the specific locations with witness statements .
Please use the following links to take you to areas of the site not directly related to the haunting guides.
For information on the legends of London; from Jack the Ripper to Spring Heeled Jack and worse; please follow the link entitled London Legends which will provide a detailed account of people and crimes that cannot warrant a strict inclusion into the ghost database.
For information on hauntings and the nature of ghosts; please see the section 'The Case For Ghosts' for details and thoughts on hauntings and the real truth behind spirit manifestations. Fact or Fiction ? We'll attempt to provide the evidence . You can decide the rest .
London-Hauntings is a new website and is as such under constant constructions. There are at rough estimate over 400 established haunted locations in London - and having an entry for every one will take some considerable time. Please be patient if specific locations are not included as of yet. They will be. With luck as the site grows; interest will grow in it and access to information and 'first hand' accounts will become easier allowing for more indepth investigations of each site.
The site will not demand a subscription to view this information nor will it ever . The information contained within is designed to be a database of the hauntings of London and also to serve as a reminder of the great tales that make London the fascianting place it is .
